Embracing the Unknown

As someone who has big dreams and desires for your life and your business, it’s important to embrace the unknown.

Deepak Chopra refers to the unknown as the fertile ground in which infinite possibility can unfold.

If something is known to us, it’s in the past. We must turn our focus to the future and be willing to lean into the discomfort of the unknown.

When I handed my boss my resignation letter in November 2014, I was setting myself up in business as a Personal Trainer and fitness coach.

I was sitting my PT qualifications as well as taking a Diploma in Nutrition for Exercise.

I knew I wanted to help people “feel amazing” and I saw myself supporting women, coaching, inspiring and motivating them.

I didn’t see any other vehicle delivery for this outcome outside of fitness classes!

We don’t know what we don’t know, right?

I was excited but in my heart and soul, something felt “off”, I just couldn’t place what it was exactly and so I pushed the feeling aside

I just stayed focused on getting qualified.

After my 3 month notice period was up, I woke up that very first morning without a job [it took me a while to identify as self-employed, let alone a business owner or entrepreneur] and panic set in.

Breathe. Oh god, Breathe. Oh god. Breathe.

What the F have I done??

As the dawning dawned, the truth surfaced from my gut…I don’t WANT to be a fitness coach!!!!

Oh god.

I’ve made a terrible mistake!!

I’ve quit my job and made the leap…into WHAT??

My head was noisy with the words of the nay-sayers who’d warned me of the risks of going it alone, after all, “Who did I think I was??”

The truth was that in my heart I KNEW this was my path.

I KNEW that my purpose was here, somewhere. I KNEW without question that somehow, my souls calling had brought me to this point.

I needed to escape the “culture scape” as Vishen Lakhiani calls our societal conditioning and paradigms, in order to find alignment with my passion and my purpose.

Was it easy? Hell no!! I flip-flopped about like a fish out of water for 9 months!

Chopping and changing my niche and my message from one month to the next and feeling my confidence and credibility seeping through the floorboards!

Turns out that the very gift I possess as a Coach was the very thing I needed the most for myself, back then.

It’s often the way.

I had my breakthrough after those agonising 9 months and everything shifted. My business began to grow as I felt 100% aligned with my passion and clients started reaching out to me!

Euphoric is an understatement!

So, what’s my point?

Embrace and step into the unknown.

>> You have to take risks
>> Lean into the discomfort
>> You have to challenge your own beliefs and perspectives
>> Don’t wait to have the whole picture all mapped out
>> Take imperfect action
>> Embrace a spirit of trust and a willingness to be open to whatever unfolds

And that applies in every area of your life – from career and business to mindset, to self-perception, to relationships and even to love.

The really cool part of me stepping into the unknown was that I found a way to live my purpose every day and help others feel amazing while I’m at it!!

An incredible reminder of our potential especially when we dive deep into the “unknown”. All we need to do is to take the UN out of KNOWN and embrace the possibilities of that state. Thank you, Sanae for your words of encouragement and for sharing your story so openly.
